Publication of E-Log Rule Delayed to November

July 16, 2015

FMCSA announced that they will delay the final publishing of the new electronic logging device rule to November, rather than the previously projected date of September 30th. The rule has been delayed since August 2011, when an appeals court revoked the February 2011 proposed rule for not including language that ensured drivers would not be harassed as a result of using ELD’s. According to Ava Herman, manager of the FMCSA’s regulatory development division, “The rule will include new technical specifications for the devices, provisions to protect drivers from harassment from their employers, and requirements for supporting hours-of-service documents.” The rule will also allow drivers to transfer hours-of-service documents to law enforcement officials via printout, wireless, Bluetooth, and a USB drive.
